ABSTRACT
"Promise me you'll marry me when we grow up. Whatever happens."
Those were the words my childhood friend told me when we were little. I never really took them seriously. After all, we were just kids playing house at that time. I thought it was nothing more than a silly promise between two kids who knew nothing about marriage.
I thought eventually he'd forget about it as we grew up, like I did. But apparently, he meant every word. He reminded me about it every time we met at the gatherings our parents arranged. He'd remind me that we made that promise when we were little and that he wouldn't take 'NO' as an answer.
It was suffocating, as he watched me from afar and followed me every time I changed schools and places.
But one day, everything changed when he suddenly acted as if he didn't know me at gatherings and never glanced at me at school like he used to.
Was our story always destined to end with a promise that neither of us could keep?
