Zoe has always been close to her parents. She fully believed they were strong enough to handle anything. Until something she didn’t expect threatens to tear her whole family apart. It’s not a person, no, it’s far worse. Cancer. Before she knows it, everything in her life she believed was indestructible suddenly feels incredibly fragile. She can’t pretend any of this is normal, not the way her parents want her to. It all seems so unfair. What did her family do to deserve this? Unable to cope with the news, she decides to put the whole thing on pause and leaves in the dead of night. But the world isn’t about to leave her alone. And neither will those closest to her. Jamie and Zoe have been friends since before either of them can remember. Despite the fact they had grown apart in recent months, Jamie is still confident in their abiding friendship. Like Zoe he has dreams of his own, namely, to play major league baseball until an injury sidelined him. Still recovering, he heads to New York to help Zoe and her parents through Sarah’s recovery and treatments. Even now, Zoe is still missing. Enlisting trusted friends, Jamie is determined to find her. But when he finally manages to track her down, it is clear she needs help. As much as he wants to bring her back to New York immediately, he knows that it is not the best place for her. There is only one person who can help her, and that person is in New Orleans: Ya-Ya. With his family’s assistance, Jamie knows they can help Zoe to a better place. But apparently, his siblings have their own ideas about how to help. They think Jamie and Zoe should be together! With Sarah still recovering from surgery and about to start her chemo treatments it is definitely not the time for romance. But as much as Jamie fights it, he can’t deny the connection he has long shared with Zoe is far deeper than he realized and maybe he isn’t the only one struggling with it.
