ABSTRACT
Episode 1: The Night Everything Changed
I met Kofi in 2022 at my cousin’s wedding.
He was quiet, always fixing things that broke the speaker, the cake stand, my shoe strap.
For 2 years he’d text me every Sunday. Ask about work. Send memes. Never once said “let’s be serious.”
When I asked him once, he just laughed and said, Amara, I’m not the marrying type. You deserve better.”
So I believed him.
I started dating other people. He’d still text. Still show up when my car broke down. Still act like he cared, but never like he wanted more.
On my 23rd birthday.
At 11:47 PM, I heard a knock. I opened the door in my robe, hair messy, expecting delivery.
It was him.
No flowers. No speech. Just standing there with a small velvet box and tired eyes like he hadn’t slept.
He said, “My mom asked about you today. For the first time in 3 years.”
Then he paused and said, “I think that means I’m ready. If you still want me.”
I didn’t cry.
I just stood there realizing he never said “I love you.”
But he let me into the part of his life he never lets anyone into.
That’s when I knew.
Some men don’t declare love.
They prove it by who they introduce you to.
To be continued....
